Playtech Signs Five-Year Platform Deal With Greek Operator OPAP for Sportsbook Migration

Published 2 June 2026

Playtech has secured a long-term agreement with Greek gambling giant OPAP to migrate its online sportsbook to a new modular platform. The deal includes risk management services and is expected to roll out in phases through late 2027.

Playtech announced Monday that it has signed a five-year platform agreement with OPAP, Greece's dominant gaming operator, to overhaul the company's online sportsbook infrastructure. The deal covers a full migration to Playtech's modular IMS platform alongside the integration of its BetTech sportsbook engine, with a phased rollout scheduled to begin in Q4 2026 and complete by the end of 2027. Financial terms were not disclosed, though analysts at Regulus Partners estimated the contract value at between €90 million and €120 million over its lifetime.

The migration represents a significant technical undertaking for OPAP, which has been operating its online sports vertical on a patchwork of legacy systems following its 2020 acquisition of Stoiximan's Greek and Cypriot operations. OPAP Chief Executive Jan Karas said the partnership would allow the operator to consolidate its sports product onto a single stack while opening the door to faster feature deployment, including same-game parlay expansions and enhanced in-play markets that have lagged behind Western European competitors.

For Playtech, the OPAP win further cements its strategic pivot toward larger B2B platform engagements following the company's restructuring under new CEO Mor Weizer's expanded mandate last year. The London-listed supplier has been progressively reducing exposure to its own consumer-facing brands while doubling down on white-label and turnkey solutions for regulated national operators. Playtech shares rose 4.2% on the London Stock Exchange following the announcement.

The agreement also includes a managed trading services component, with Playtech's risk team taking over a portion of OPAP's sportsbook liability management. Industry observers noted that the deal positions Playtech competitively against Kambi and OpenBet, both of which had reportedly tendered for the contract earlier this year. OPAP's online segment generated roughly €420 million in gross gaming revenue in 2025, accounting for nearly 22% of the group's total.
