BetMGM Launches Dedicated Esports Betting Vertical Ahead of Worlds 2026
BetMGM has unveiled a standalone esports betting platform covering League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, and Valorant, timed to capitalize on the upcoming League of Legends World Championship. The product will initially go live in New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, with plans to scale across remaining regulated US states by year-end.
BetMGM has officially launched its dedicated esports betting vertical, marking the operator's most significant push into competitive gaming wagering to date. The new product, branded BetMGM Esports, went live on Friday across New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, offering markets on League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Dota 2, and Rocket League. The launch comes just months ahead of the League of Legends World Championship 2026, which is expected to draw record viewership across North America.
The platform features dedicated match centers with live statistics, map-by-map betting, player prop markets, and in-play wagering powered by data feeds from Bayes Esports and GRID. BetMGM has also struck content partnerships with several tier-one esports organizations to deliver integrated previews and analyst commentary directly within the app. Senior Vice President of Product Matt Prevost said the vertical represents "a structural commitment to a demographic that mainstream sportsbooks have historically underserved," pointing to internal data showing esports bettors skew 12 years younger than the operator's average sports customer.
The move arrives as US esports betting handle has shown signs of acceleration following years of muted growth. Industry analysts at Eilers & Krejcik estimate that regulated US esports wagering will surpass $480 million in handle this year, up from $310 million in 2025, driven largely by the maturation of Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant tournament circuits. BetMGM joins a small group of operators including Rivalry and Thunderpick that have built dedicated esports experiences, though it is the first major US-facing operator to wall off the vertical with its own product.
BetMGM plans to expand the esports product to all of its remaining live US states by the fourth quarter, with Ontario rollout expected in early 2027 pending iGO approval. The operator has also signaled it will introduce esports-specific responsible gambling tools, including session reminders timed to match length and spending caps tied to tournament cycles, addressing concerns regulators have raised about younger demographics engaging with the format.
