BetMGM Partners with Cirsa to Enter Spanish Online Casino Market

Published 26 August 2026

The US-focused operator has signed a joint venture agreement with Spanish gaming giant Cirsa to launch BetMGM-branded casino products in Spain by early 2027. The deal marks BetMGM's first major expansion into continental Europe outside of its established UK footprint.

BetMGM announced on Tuesday a strategic joint venture with Barcelona-based Cirsa Enterprises to introduce its casino brand to the Spanish regulated market, targeting a Q1 2027 launch pending approval from the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ). Under the terms of the agreement, Cirsa will hold a 60% stake and manage local operations, compliance, and payments infrastructure, while BetMGM contributes its proprietary game aggregation platform, loyalty framework, and MGM Rewards integration for international travelers.

The partnership represents a notable pivot for BetMGM, whose parent joint venture between Entain and MGM Resorts has historically concentrated on the North American market. Executives cited Spain's maturing regulatory environment and steady 12% year-over-year online GGR growth as key drivers behind the decision. "Spain offers a rare combination of regulatory clarity, sophisticated player demand, and untapped premium segment potential," said BetMGM International CEO Adam Greenblatt during a press briefing in Madrid.

Cirsa, which recently completed its IPO on the Spanish stock exchange, sees the tie-up as a way to bolster its digital arm against dominant local players Codere and Kindred-owned Sportium. The company has committed €85 million in initial marketing and technology investment across the first two years of operations, with plans to open a dedicated development hub in Valencia to support the platform.

Industry analysts view the deal as a signal that US-centric operators are increasingly looking abroad amid tightening state-level regulation and market saturation in North America. Regulus Partners noted in a Tuesday briefing that BetMGM's Spanish entry could pressure incumbents to accelerate product innovation, particularly in live casino and jackpot networks where MGM-branded content is expected to differentiate the offering.
