Light & Wonder Debuts Cross-Platform Jackpot Network Linking Land-Based and Online Slots

Light & Wonder unveiled its Horizon Jackpots network on Wednesday, marking what the supplier describes as the industry's first commercially deployed progressive system that unifies land-based slot cabinets and online slot titles into a single shared prize pool. The initial launch pairs the vendor's Kascada cabinets on the floors of Hard Rock Atlantic City and Rivers Philadelphia with mirrored online versions available through partner operators in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with contributions from both channels feeding the same escalating jackpots.

The network debuts with three tiered prizes — Mini, Major, and Horizon — with the top-tier progressive seeded at $500,000 and expected to hit an average of $2.4 million based on internal modeling. Light & Wonder's SVP of Global Gaming Systems, Siobhan Lane, said the architecture required more than two years of regulatory coordination, particularly around real-time contribution reconciliation and ensuring that jackpot triggers could be validated across both retail and remote gaming servers without latency issues. State regulators in both jurisdictions signed off on the framework earlier this summer after extended technical trials.

Analysts view the launch as a potential inflection point for omnichannel product design, an area suppliers have talked about for years but rarely executed at scale. Eilers & Krejcik gaming analyst Chris Krafcik noted that shared liquidity between retail and online should meaningfully accelerate jackpot hit frequency, which has historically been a pain point for online-only progressives with smaller player pools. Competing suppliers including IGT and Aristocrat are believed to be developing similar cross-channel frameworks, though neither has publicly committed to a launch timeline.

Light & Wonder plans to extend Horizon Jackpots to Michigan and Ontario in the first quarter of next year, pending regulatory approvals, and is in discussions with tribal operators in Connecticut about a customized version. The company also confirmed that a European variant tailored to Italian and Spanish market rules is in early development, though a launch window has not been set.
