Kindred Group Launches AI-Powered Behavioural Risk Engine Across Nordic Brands
Kindred Group has rolled out a new machine learning platform designed to detect early-stage problem gambling indicators across its Unibet, Maria Casino, and Storspiller brands in Denmark, Norway, and Finland. The system replaces the operator's previous PS-EDS tool and processes over 200 behavioural signals in near real-time.
Kindred Group announced today the full deployment of Aegis, a proprietary behavioural risk detection platform built in partnership with Copenhagen-based AI firm Mindway Research. The system went live across the operator's Nordic-facing brands this week, succeeding the Player Safety Early Detection System that Kindred has used since 2018. Aegis monitors more than 200 distinct player behaviour signals, including deposit velocity, session duration patterns, chase betting sequences, and in-session volatility shifts, generating risk scores that trigger graduated intervention workflows ranging from informational nudges to mandatory cooling-off periods.
According to Kindred's Chief Sustainability Officer Esther Scheibe, pilot results from a six-month trial in Denmark showed a 34% improvement in early identification of at-risk players compared to the legacy PS-EDS model, with false positive rates reduced by roughly half. The company reported that its share of revenue derived from high-risk players fell to 2.9% in Q2 2026, down from 3.3% a year earlier, and executives expect Aegis to accelerate that decline. Interventions triggered by the system are logged and audited quarterly by an independent panel including researchers from Lund University and the Danish Centre for Ludomani.
The rollout coincides with intensifying regulatory expectations across the Nordic region. Spillemyndigheden in Denmark updated its duty-of-care guidance in August, and Norway's Lotteritilsynet has signalled that it will require all licensed operators to demonstrate algorithmic risk monitoring capabilities under proposed 2027 framework revisions. Finnish operators are also preparing for the opening of the country's multi-licence market in January 2027, where responsible gambling infrastructure will form a core part of licensing scoring criteria.
Kindred confirmed it intends to extend Aegis to its UK, Belgian, and Dutch operations throughout the first half of 2027, pending consultations with each jurisdiction's regulator. The company is also exploring a white-label version of the engine through its B2B subsidiary Relax Gaming, which could be offered to smaller operators lacking the data science resources to build equivalent systems in-house.
