UK Gambling Act Reform: What Operators Need to Know Before October

The UKGC has finalised its new affordability check framework, with mandatory real-time financial verification for players spending over £500 per month taking effect in October 2026.

The UK Gambling Commission has published its finalised affordability check framework following a 14-month consultation period. From 1 October 2026, operators licensed in Great Britain will be required to conduct real-time financial verification checks on any player depositing more than £500 in a rolling 30-day period. The checks will use open banking data rather than credit file inquiries, meaning they will not impact a player's credit score. Operators have until 1 July to integrate with approved open banking providers. Non-compliance will result in licence review. Industry body BGC has welcomed the use of open banking but warned that poorly calibrated thresholds risk pushing players to unlicensed offshore sites.
